Real-time logistics visibility for frozen goods

FRoSTA needed more timely and accurate visibility into the execution of its road and ocean transports. Its logistics planners mainly work in SAP S/4HANA and coordinate with carriers via Transporeon, the transport visibility and collaboration platform.

To eliminate manual updates and fragmented workflows, FRoSTA implemented a near real-time, event-driven integration between SAP S/4HANA and Transporeon. Transport orders and key logistics milestones are now exchanged automatically between both systems, so planners have an always up-to-date shipment status view directly in SAP.

How it works

The project started with a two-day onsite workshop involving FRoSTA’s planning and logistics teams. Together, we mapped operational processes, identified critical logistics events and aligned on what near real-time visibility means from a business perspective.

Based on this, an event-driven architecture was designed and implemented using SAP Integration Suite:

  • SAP S/4HANA emits business events when purchase orders and freight orders are created or updated
  • SAP Event Mesh distributes these events in real time
  • SAP Cloud Integration orchestrates and maps messages to Transporeon
  • SAP API Management ensures secure API exposure and monitoring
  • Transport orders are created instantly in Transporeon, notifying carriers
  • Milestones such as ETA updates and proof of delivery flow back into SAP S/4HANA

Planners can track shipment progress directly in SAP, without switching tools.
