Next-gen inventory control

Mambo Supply is the core application Areas uses to oversee inventory management across its global outlets. It supports stock audits, purchase order processing, goods issue and receipt, alongside a detailed product catalog.

Due to the phasing out of the WebSQL database support in current browsers, Areas decided to rebuild Mambo Supply on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). The revamped app utilizes the latest SAP-supported technologies and ensures compatibility with all browsers used across the company. SAPUI5 powers the user interface, providing an adaptive experience on multiple device types.

Challenges

  • Legacy app incompatible with modern web browsers

  • Limited technical and functional documentation of the existing system

  • Security risks due to outdated technologies requiring urgent updates

  • Extensive user base spread across multiple countries

  • Need to transform old BAPIs into web-friendly OData services

Solution benefits

  • Supports smooth migration from SAP ECC to S/4HANA

  • Cross-device and multi-platform accessibility

  • Tight integration with Azure Active Directory for enhanced security and centralized user administration

  • Extends on-premise capabilities while limiting unnecessary system exposure

  • Single, maintainable codebase reducing future development overhead

About the solution

Amista developed a full suite of Mambo Supply applications leveraging SAP BTP technologies. The UI/UX was refined through collaborative workshops with end users, utilizing Figma to optimize user workflows and interface design.

The front-end employs SAPUI5 for a responsive layout, adapting seamlessly across desktops and mobile devices. Backend services utilize SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) and SAP HANA Cloud to handle data storage and draft management. Data flows directly from SAP ECC (with plans for S/4HANA) through OData interfaces.

This modern stack enables significant reuse of components in Areas’ mobile progressive web apps, which offer offline capabilities and barcode scanning support on specialized devices. Maintaining one codebase simplifies future upgrades and maintenance.
