Centralized authorization to reduce access management effort across all applications

Centralised access across all applications

As Areas expanded its digital landscape with more applications running on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), managing user access became increasingly complex. Multiple layers of authorisation, from frontend restrictions to backend data privileges, required extensive configuration, often leading to inconsistencies and delays.

To address these challenges, Areas partnered with Amista to develop the Authorization Manager, a centralised solution that brings all access management activities together in a single platform. This innovative tool enables administrators to easily assign, review and adjust access across both SAP BTP and non-BTP applications, saving time and ensuring consistent compliance across the organisation.

Challenges vs solution

Challenges

  • Configuring access for large user groups

  • Managing complex, layered authorization rules

  • Limited visibility into organizational hierarchies

  • Manual processes increasing errors and administrative effort

  • Ensuring consistent governance across BTP and non-BTP applications

Solution benefits

  • Centralized access management across all applications

  • Reduced manual effort and fewer configuration errors

  • Scalable solution supporting future growth

  • Intuitive interface for users, groups, applications and hierarchies

About the solution

Amista implemented the Authorization Manager on SAP Business Technology Platform, with a SAPUI5 frontend and a CAP-based backend.

The solution enables:

  • Automated role assignment: Users are grouped and roles assigned collectively for efficiency

  • Context-driven permissions: Access can be controlled using application attributes and business logic

  • Intuitive management views: Administrators can manage users, groups, applications and organizational hierarchies from a single interface

  • Cross-platform support: Manages access for both BTP and non-BTP applications
